She can see her future laid out before her exactly as she always dreamed of it, and she has the confidence and drive to make that future happen. But nothing ever works out exactly the way one plans, and such eager, ambitious loyalty is all too easy for a cat with dark intetions to twist to their own designs. Rootpaw

The newly-apprenticed son of Violetshine and Tree loves his family, but often wished his father wasn’t so weird, with all his talk of ghosts and not respecting Clan traditions and just overall acting odd. Rootpaw has a short temper and a lot of embarrassment over his father’s percived oddness, and a scuffle with some older apprentices over the matter quickly lands Rootpaw in the freezing leafbare lake where he nearly drowns – only to be saved by Bristlepaw of ThunderClan. From that moment on, Rootpaw is infatuated with his brave and attractive rescuer. But what hope is there for a SkyClan apprentice padding after a ThunderClan warrior? And when some of Tree’s oddness starts to show itself witin Rootpaw, will he be able to accept this part of himself, or will fear of becoming as mocked and judged as his father consume him?

Shadowpaw

From nearly the moment he was born, the son of Dovewing and Tigerstar was different in a way no one could quite understand. Spire of the guardian cats predicted that “this one will see into the shadows”, and from a young age Shadowpaw has suffered from seizures accompanied by strange visions and omens. His penchant for visions and his love of healing led him to the medicine den, but even there he doesn’t feel fully understood – no other medicine cat has such frightening seizures or such strange and violent visions. When the Moonpool freezes and StarClan’s voice begins to grow faint to every ear but his own, will Shadowpaw be able to lead the Clans to the future their ancestors demand of them? Or is there something darker at work behind the words whispered to Shadowpaw from beyond the grave?

Bramblestar

This proud, noble leader has stood at the head of his Clan for seasons, and has won the respect of every cat around the lake for his fairness and courage. His mate Squirrelflight stands at his side as his deputy, his kits are skilled healers and warriors, and his Clan is flourishing under his rule. But all of that is suddenly ripped out from underneath him. As leafbare grows colder, a strange illness grips the formidable leader, and with no cat but Shadowpaw able to contact StarClan, whispers ripple through the Clan of whether a leader can recover from losing a life with no ancestors to revive him. When Bramblestar’s first life does finally slip away, it takes nearly a full day for him to recover, but recover he does – or at least, his body does. But the spirit within seems stranger, harder, and crueler than any cat would have ever expected from the true Bramblestar…

Stemleaf

Though still a young warrior, Stemleaf’s courage and friendly nature has already won the respect of much of his Clan, and the particular admiration of Bristlefrost. But while he cares for Bristlefrost deeply, it may not be in the way she wishes – and further disagreements may seek to divide them more in the future. As Bramblestar’s behavior starts to change, the question arises of which warriors will follow their leader no matter what, and which cats will take a stand against cruelty no matter who it comes from. When Stemleaf makes his stance clear, will Bristlefrost be able to accept that her own loyalties might put her at odds with the warrior she so admires?

Spotfur

An old friend of Stemleaf’s, this she-cat is similar to Bristlefrost in many ways. They’re both brave, ambitious, confident young she-cats determined to be the best warriors they can be for their Clan. But they differ on how they believe they can best serve their Clan, and Spotfur is not afraid to call out those she believes to be harming her Clan, whoever they may be. Will the two she-cats find themselves at odds on how best to protect their Clan from the darkness that seems to be choking them from within? Or will they find a common ground in their desire to protect the Clan – and the cats – they both love so dearly?
