BY THE EDITOR
If you’re among our readers who have just finished Omen of the Stars, you’ve seen the Clans overcome one of the greatest challenges they have ever faced, with the help of ancient warriors. Now, before continuing with the tale of the modern Clans, the Dawn of the Clans arc will look back to the time of those ancient cats, to where it all began, and the first cats to call themselves warriors prowled the forest. To help all our readers get a good start on the fifth series of Warriors, we’ve put together this rundown of the most important characters in Dawn of the Clans. Enjoy!
Gray Wing
This young mountain hunter doesn’t have the bold ambition of his brother Clear Sky, nor the drive to explore new things that drove most of the other cats to follow the Sun Trail. He has always valued a peaceful life with his loved ones over all else. But when circumstances force him to journey far from his home, and tensions begin rising between cats who should have been loyal to one another, will he be able to keep his new home, and the cats he cares for most, safe while clinging to his peaceful ideals? Will his new life in a new land bring him family, love, and hope – or will it tear away everything he’s fought so hard to gain?

Clear Sky
Gray Wing’s littermate is everything he lacks – he is bold, ambitious, a born leader. He has the charisma to inspire cats to follow him, and the drive to get whatever he thinks they need. But he also lacks Gray Wing’s careful compassion for others, and his preference for peace over always grasping for more. All of the hardship and loss in the mountains had its impact on this determined tom, and while Gray Wing has taken those experiences as a reason to appreciate what he already has, Clear Sky seems to have taken a different lesson from them. Will his increasing need for control bring his cats the prosperity he craves? Or will his actions drive a permanent wedge between him and the cats who look up to him most?

Thunder
Born at the end of The Sun Trail, the life of this young tom has been full of heartache, loss, and rejection from almost the moment it started. He was taken in by cats who cared for him, but a longing for what he lost still weighed on his heart. Will this young cat, caught between his kin, the cats who raised him, and what he believes in his own heart, be able to carve out a place for himself in the quickly-changing world of the early Clans? Will he be able to define himself apart from what all of the cats around him would decide for him – or will he be drowned out by grudges and resenments that started before he was even born?

Tall Shadow
This quiet, crafty she-cat may be a bit more independent and suspicious of others than her groupmates, but her dedication to her groupmates and friends is undeniable, and the mountain cats would never have made it to their new home without her leadership. But with tensions rising between her group and the new group of forest cats, as well as tensions within her own group, Tall Shadow’s leadership will soon be tested. Will she be able to hold strong to her ideals and defend the cats she cares for most? Or will the dark reputation of her Clan begin with her and the choices she makes?

Wind
The former mountain cats met thiis swift moor-hunting rogue and her mate not long after arriving in the forest. She was wary of the mountain cats at first, but over time they developed a friendship. Wind has all of the qualities of a group cat – courage, loyalty, and a will to defend the weak above all else – but she is also ambitious, controlling, and stubborn. Her blatant attempts to assert herself among Tall Shadow’s cats may lead to even more divisions among an already fractured group. Will this bold, stubborn she-cat be able to find her place among others? Or will her loner’s heart and the heartbreaks of life in the wild keep her from ever settling among her own kind?

River Ripple
This peace-loving loner is something of an enigma to the Clans. He lives near the river, eats fish, and doesn’t seeem to mind the feel of water on his pelt. He is friendly and gets along well with the moor cats, but never comes to live with them. He is wise and thoughtful, and sees far beyond the petty border disputes of the cats around him, to something more spiritual and true. Will the guidance of his wise loner be enough to turn the former mountain cats from the path of war? Or will his calls for peace be drowned out by the cries of battle?
